Patriots Day Trailer: Mark Wahlberg and a Lot of Boston Accents Star in Boston Marathon–Bombing Drama

After teaming up for 2013’s Lone Survivor and this fall’s Deepwater Horizon, Mark Wahlberg is partnering yet again with director Peter Berg for Patriots Day, another film that explores the human toll of a devastating real-life tragedy. The most recent trailer stars Wahlberg as police officer Tommy Saunders, working under John Goodman’s police commissioner Ed Davis on April 15, 2013, the day a bombing at the Boston Marathon killed three people and injured 264 others. Saunders and the rest of the city, including Bostonians depicted by J.K. Simmons, Kevin Bacon, and Michelle Monaghan, are subsequently drawn into the massive manhunt that ended in the arrest of now-convicted bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. (Twist: Melissa Benoist plays his girlfriend!) The incredibly pared-down score is, of course, by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. No sign of David Ortiz yet in either trailer, but just know he will be there.
