Werner Herzog has long been unafraid to plumb the mysteries of human existence. In Salt and Fire, that ostensibly means producing a thriller about a super-volcano, but mostly it’s giving us this question: Between Michael Shannon and Gael García Bernal, who is Salt and who is Fire? Shannon seems to be the obvious Salt, in our minds, which leaves Bernal as Fire, but we’re willing to hear your arguments. Anyway, Salt and Fire will premiere in France in December, and in the U.S. sometime next year. If you can’t wait until then, Herzog’s volcano documentary Into the Inferno will appear on Netflix on October 28.
