Newt Scamander Won’t Always Be the Center of the Fantastic Beasts Movies

While watching Fantastic Beasts, it can seem like Eddie Redmayne’s magizoologist Newt Scamander, the nominal protagonist, is tangential to the central plot of the film. It seems that this dynamic will become even more stark as the planned five-film franchise moves forward. In an interview with Cinemablend, producer David Heyman revealed that the franchise will start to shift its focus in future installments. “I don’t think [Newt will be at] the heart of all of them,” he said. “I think he’ll be part — so will Tina, Queenie, and Jacob — will be part of the next one.” So, as the franchise progresses from 1926 to 1945, instead of Newt and his pals, Dumbledore, Grindelwald, and — spoiler alert! — Ezra Miller’s Credence will become “the main players,” according to Heyman. Finally, Eddie Redmayne might have the free time for some Jupiter Ascending sequels!
