Heath Ledger’s legacy as an actor includes so many serious, proper actor-y roles that it can be easy to forget how beloved he was in 10 Things I Hate About You. As it turns out, that wasn’t just the camera working its magic, since Ledger was apparently a total oddball wonder on set as well. Ledger’s co-star in that film, Gabrielle Union, was on Thursday’s Watch What Happens Live, and she shared memories of Ledger — no perfectly packaged anecdotes, just sweet impressions — that are genuinely overflowing with warmth. Recalling a 19-year-old Ledger, Union described “such a man” (his girlfriend at the time was 38!) who was “great, warm, [and] funny” and who helped make the movie a “dream.” It’s a lovely moment of Union remembering an old friend.
