Just when you thought it was hard enough to get into Hamilton, the show has become even more unstoppable. According to the New York Times, the production set a Broadway record for the most money earned in a single week. With $3.3 million for eight shows, it is the first production to surpass $3 million in revenues for an eight-show week. The closest runner-up was Wicked, which earned $3.2 million for a nine-performance week in 2013. This is coming after Vice-President-elect Mike Pence attended a show and was addressed by the cast. “We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir,” said actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr. “But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.” Granted, last week was a particularly busy time for Broadway, as Thanksgiving happens to be the second most lucrative period of the year after Christmas and New Year’s. In fact, 13 shows grossed more than $1 million last week, including four that exceeded $2 million — Hamilton, The Lion King, Wicked, and Aladdin. At this rate, Broadway is probably hoping Pence will see more musicals.
