Seth Meyers Takes a Closer Look at Trump's Selection of Stephen Bannon as Chief Strategist

By

Seth Meyers, like many Americans, watched the media's normalization of Donald Trump and heard President Obama's call to give the president-elect a fair chance, and he tried to give Trump a shot — until the Republican appointed Steve Bannon his chief strategist. "Well, we gave him a chance. Bye, chance!" Meyers said during his "Closer Look" segment on Monday's Late Night. Bannon, who is the former head of alt-right nationalists' recommended media source, Breitbart News, is, according to Meyers, too extreme to be labeled simply "controversial." After Paul Ryan demurred on giving an opinion on Bannon, saying he never met the fellow conservative, Meyers quipped, "I've never met John Wilkes Booth, but I let his past work inform my opinion of him."
