Gunsmoke has been outgunned. Today, Fox renewed The Simpsons for 29th and 30th seasons, bringing it up to a total of 669 episodes (nice!) and breaking the record for the most episodes of any U.S. prime-time scripted TV show — poor old Gunsmoke only made it to 635 and will have to console itself with the fact that people don’t constantly make jokes about how it isn’t the same anymore. Of course, a whole fleet of daytime soaps outpace both shows in total episode counts, but as a catchphrase, “Days of Our Lives did it!” doesn’t scan nearly as well.
