Let it be known that the casting director at the CW’s Riverdale is a goddamn genius: Molly Ringwald is joining the show as Archie’s mom, Mary Andrews. This means that in the world of Riverdale — a gritty, noirish, very YA adaptation of the comics — Archie, played by newcomer K.J. Apa, is the brood of Ringwald and none other than Luke Perry from 90210, who plays Fred, Archie’s father and her husband. In the plot of the show, Mary Andrews returns to her hometown of Riverdale during a time of crisis, and better yet, just in time for the homecoming dance. Riverdale premieres January 26 on the CW.
