After much ado (and rampant speculation) about whether we’d get fresh Taylor Swift music before year’s end, Swift has gifted the world with a new single, and it’s about a relationship that’s more twisted than even the heights of Hiddleswift dared to be. A collaboration with Zayn (technically styled ZAYN; Vulture regrets the error), “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is Swift’s entry in the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, and no one could excuse the song of being short on shades of … something. Now, we know that both Taylor and Zayn are professional artists who take their work very seriously, and we respect that! But, just for the sake of the splendor of human imagination, let’s take but a short beat to reckon with how much of that recording session was probably gossip by way of a Harry Styles–baggage exorcism. All right. Beat’s over, and it’s back to the artistry! Listen to “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” on Apple Music, and see Swift’s debut of the tune set to footage of the film below.
