Solange’s Mesmerizing Lady in Red on Fallon Is One of 2016’s Best Late-Night Performances

With Solange’s A Seat at the Table now a Grammy-nominated breath of fresh air in this suffocating year, she’s all but guaranteed a seat at the head of every table. She’s since pulled up a chair on SNL for one of the year’s most creative televised performances; on Thursday, she overtook the whole damn proverbial dining room on The Tonight Show. Solange transformed Jimmy Fallon’s set into her own private oasis where she and her two backup singers recreated Tina Knowles’s instant-classic connected infinity dress from Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky” video for a medley performance of album standouts “Rise” and “Weary.” If you thought the look was endlessly breathtaking then, prepare to be totally mesmerized by the vision that is Solange as the lady in red. It’s emotional, regal, and in a word: stunning — one of the best late-night performances of 2016.
