Bill Paxton died Saturday at the age of 61. In a statement, the actor’s family says, “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery.” Paxton had a prolific film career spanning four decades, starring in movies including Weird Science, Twister, and Apollo 13, and often teaming with James Cameron for films such as The Terminator, Aliens, and Titanic. Paxton was also a notable figure in the growth of prestige TV, leading HBO’s Big Love and later winning an Emmy for his role in Hatfields and McCoys. Until his death, Paxton was a series regular on CBS’s reboot of Training Day. Of his lifetime of work, Paxton’s family adds, “Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
