David Bowie’s birthplace might soon shine a little brighter if his fans in London get their way. Billboard reports that a crowd-sourcing effort is under way to build a three-story-high lightning-bolt statue in Bowie’s birthplace, Brixton, South London. The giant zigzag would be a clear homage to the red-and-blue lighting bolt that was painted on the singer’s face for his famous Aladdin Sane album cover in 1973. The monument is estimated to cost $1.23 million, which is a hefty sum to be raised completely by crowd-sourcing. So far, it is only at 2 percent of that goal on its official page, but it has received donations from 189 supporters. It would also fit in nicely at its proposed location — right across the street from Electric Avenue.
