Legendary is really setting up fans to get emotionally overinvested in the next Godzilla movie. Variety is reporting that Kyle Chandler has joined Godzilla: King of the Monsters in the role of Millie Bobby Brown’s dad. Putting Coach Taylor and Eleven directly underfoot of a building-size kaiju is a shrewd move on behalf of the studio. Yes, it would be a vicious decision to dispatch with either Chandler or Brown in the movie, but the last Godzilla did start with Juliette Binoche being sacrificed for the emotional motivation of Bryan Cranston’s character, and director Michael Dougherty proved with Krampus that he’s good with an unhappy ending. Get your nerves ready, because your faves are in jeopardy.
