James Blunt Debunks That Famous Ed Sheeran Injury Story Involving Princess Beatrice

Last November, Ed Sheeran proudly flaunted a fresh wound on his face as he told the world an excessively British story: He was slashed by a real royal, Princess Beatrice, during a faux knighting ceremony with an actual ceremonial sword. Unfortunately, according to fellow party attendee James Blunt, that’s not actually how it went down. “Ed was drunk, messing around, and he cut himself,” Blunt told ShortList in an interview. “We made a fancy story up, people fell for it. It was very embarrassing.”

Though Blunt didn’t explain what actually caused the cut, he confirmed that he was there and that it was “all” made up. Considering how often Sheeran seems to injure himself, it’s pretty believable that the singer didn’t need the help of a princess to start bleeding everywhere. “It’s bizarre that people fell for it,” Blunt said. “I blame him. He must be desperate — he’s trying to sell records.” Sheeran’s cut has since healed, but it’s going to take a while before he’s recovered from that nasty burn.
