Just days after dropping “ShETHER,” her seven-minute diss-track attack on Nicki Minaj, Remy Ma continues the onslaught with the appropriately titled “Another One.” This one’s a shorter, punchier affair, with a notable addition: Mariah Carey, whose vocals (sampled from the infamous American Idol fight between Carey and Minaj in 2012) open the track. As Hot 97 DJ Miss Info notes in her blog post about it, Remy Ma’s “1-2 punch” of releasing the two tracks back-to-back echoes the same strategy employed by Drake in his Meek Mill disses of 2015. In further nods to the 6 God, Remy is mimicking Drake’s flow on “Back to Back” here (the second of the two aforementioned Meek Mill “punches”), and also like “Back to Back,” she’s responding to Nicki’s non-response to “ShETHER” with lines like, “I mean where the fuck is your song, I mean c’mon!” The ball’s doubly in Nicki’s court now; will she take the pass? For her part, Remy’s betting a little Instagram goading might push Nicki a little closer to the edge.
