What’s Leaving Hulu: April 2017

Each month, several films and TV shows leave Hulu’s catalogue. We provide a list of departing titles so you can watch them before they’re gone forever (or are just available on a different site). For more comprehensive coverage of the best titles available on Hulu and elsewhere, check out Vulture’s What to Stream Now hub, which is updated throughout the month.

Fetching: Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Is it strange that the internet-fueled era of endless pet videos hasn’t sparked a revival of Disney’s pet-adventure franchise, which saw its first incarnation in 1963 before being remade in 1993? Given the controversies behind A Dog’s Purpose, perhaps the studio is reluctant to mount a new live-action film starring animals in dangerous situations. But Homeward Bound was made with compassion (as far as we know), and the story of two dogs and one cat who embark on a cross-country journey to find their owners is charming and not too scary for kids. If our furry friends are handled with enough care, the Disney remake machine could do worse than another Homeward Bound. Leaving April 14.

Inches from a clean getaway: Terms of Endearment

Yeah, it’s a tearjerker — the tearjerker, in fact. If the shock of a devastating illness in the second half of a warm and affectionate family dramedy isn’t your thing, please continue to operate in blissful ignorance of James L. Brooks’s 1983 mother-daughter lovefest. But you’ll be missing out on some of the most affecting, convincing moments of human connection ever committed to film, as Debra Winger and Shirley MacLaine (who despise each other in real life) try to navigate the rocky waters of failed marriages, caddish love interests, and, of course, that erstwhile villain cancer. Resist all you want, but Terms of Endearment knew precisely what it was doing, and it still works like a runny faucet if you let it. Leaving April 30.

Jobu lives: Major League

Let even those of us who are Cleveland Indians haters spare a moment of thought for the Tribe, which saw its historic, snap-breaking 2016 season played by the sports media as merely a foil to the even more historic run and eventual World Series victory of the Chicago Cubs. At least Cleveland can still boast one of the all-time greatest sports comedies, in this proudly impolite 1989 gem about a new owner who tries to drive the team’s attendance record into the ground so she can move them to another city. If you were trying to destroy a baseball team, you could do worse than hire Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger to play for it — yet of course, just like in real baseball, there’s always a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Leaving April 19.
