Here’s a clip from last night’s Late Night, where Seth Meyers takes a lengthy “Closer Look” at Trump’s recent decision to fire FBI Director James Comey in the middle of the Russia investigation and the resulting fallout from the news, which much of the mainstream media is having a lot of trouble keeping up with. “This is how crazy things are in the Trump administration – reporters literally don’t have the aerobic strength to report the news anymore. Soon, CNN is gonna have to replace Wolf Blitzer with Usain Bolt,” Meyers says before comparing Trump’s official reason for firing Comey – how he handled the Hillary Clinton email investigation – with the real, more obvious reasons: to stop the Russia investigation and take media attention away from Comey and back to himself. “Now, Democrats are of course up in arms, but this moment poses a crucial test for the Republican party as well,” Meyers says. “Will they stand up and defend democratic institutions under threat from Trump, or will they continue to choose party over country?”
