Former FBI Director James Comey testifies before the Senate this morning, so during last night’s Late Night, Seth Meyers took “A Closer Look” at Comey’s opening remarks, which were released yesterday ahead of today’s hearing. Meyers says the interactions with Trump that Comey describes in his testimony sound like “a terrible Tinder date,” where Trump allegedly told Comey “I expect loyalty” and asked him what he could do to “lift the cloud” regarding the Russia investigation. Also: Will Trump tweet during the hearing, and if so, should we consider his tweets official White House statements despite conflicting views from his administration? “The only obsession that matters is the president’s obsession with using social media to say unhinged things. It’s not our fault for paying attention,” Meyers says. “Social media wasn’t around during the Civil War, but if Abraham Lincoln opened his window and shouted nonsense every 20 minutes, the press would’ve covered it.”
