There are plenty of overnight YouTube hits that don’t really deserve their flash in the pan. A backflip gone wrong. A toddler saying something close to the word “fuck” over and over again. We watch. We know. We forget. Comedian Brent Pella’s commentary on Spirit Airlines deserves the heat it’s drummed up over the past 24 hours (it probably has far more views now than at the time of my writing) for two reasons: the deftness with which Pella–a relative unknown–tackles squeaky clean observational comedy, and the enterprising presentation served up courtesy of cartoonist Karli Melder. Why You Shouldn’t Fly Spirit Airlines is unlike anything else Pella’s got on his fledgling channel, and worthy of every click of attention it’s received. Oh. Views are at 322, 643 now.
