Fox has two new comedy pilots in the works. According to Deadline, the network has given pilot orders to a single-cam comedy titled Our People as well as a multi-cam comedy starring Lil Rel Howery called Rel. From Lee Daniels and Vali Chandrasekaran, Our People is based on Israel’s Nevsu: A Young Multicultural Couple and centers on “a man from a bombastic African family who doesn’t have a word in their native language for ‘privacy’ and his fiancée from a mid-western family” who “try to build a normal life together. Though nobody can agree what that ‘normal’ means.”

Rel, meanwhile, was given a put-pilot commitment in October, stars Lil Rel Howery, is executive produced by Jerrod Carmichael, and is part of Carmichael’s overall deal with the network. Inspired by Howery’s life, the series centers on “a prideful, self-made success who lives by the code to ‘always believe in yourself and great things will come’” who “finds that attitude put to the test when he learns his wife is having an affair with his own barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the West Side of Chicago who’s on a quest for love, respect and a new barber.” The pilot is written/executive produced by Josh Rabinowitz and Kevin Barnett.
