Greg has a very exciting new life ahead of him after leaving West Covina. Santino Fontana, formerly of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and a Tony nominee for Cinderella, is starring in a Broadway-bound production of Tootsie that will stop by Chicago this fall. Fontana will play Michael Dorsey, alias Dorothy Michaels, the struggling actor who decides to dress as a woman to revive his career (played by Dustin Hoffman in the film, though the show’s producers will surely try to keep a distance from him now). David Yazbek, of The Band’s Visit, is writing the music and lyrics, with a book by Robert Horn, choreography by Denis Jones, and direction from Scott Ellis. The musical’s aiming to open on Broadway in spring 2019, which means it’ll land in the same season as fellow movie adaptation Pretty Woman. May the best outdated-but-surely-updated-for-2018 musical tale of gender politics win.
