NBC Orders ‘Bright Futures’ Comedy Pilot from Kenya Barris

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris now has two comedy pilots in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered a single-cam pilot executive produced by Barris called Bright Futures, which he originally had in development at ABC last year. Written by Grown-ish’s Hale Rothstein, Danny Segal, and Isaac Schamis, the ensemble comedy centers on “a group of friends stumbling through the transition from the clueless, immature 20-somethings they are now to the successful professionals they’re destined to become.” Barris also has a multi-cam family comedy in the works at ABC, which was ordered to series in December but has since been changed to a pilot order after Alec Baldwin backed out of a possible starring role.
