Master of None writer and The Chi creator Lena Waithe has a comedy project in the works at TBS. Deadline reports that the network has given a pilot order to a single-cam comedy by Waithe called Twenties. The show centers on “the adventures of a queer black girl, Hattie, and her two straight best friends, Marie and Nia, who spend most of their days talking shit and chasing their dreams. It’s a show about friendship, finding love, and messing everything up along the way.”

Waithe wrote the series back in 2009, produced it as a web series in 2013, then developed it as a pilot for BET back in 2014. Now that she has an Emmy Award under her belt, hopefully this time around Twenties will finally make it to TV. “I always wanted to tell a story where a queer black woman was the protagonist and I’m so grateful to TBS for giving me a platform to tell this story,” she said on the project. “Queer black characters have been the sidekick for long enough, it’s time for us to finally take the lead.”
