A Note About Splitsider

Since Splitsider launched in 2010, the goal of our tiny island on the internet has been simple: to keep you up to date on all the best comedy news and content happening in the world today, whether it’s from established names or exciting up-and-comers, and to chronicle and evaluate the ways the comedy landscape is ever-changing. Thanks to founder Adam Frucci, many talented contributors, and our loyal readers, I think it’s fair to say that we’ve been successful in this mission, and if we’ve helped even one comedy fan fall in love with something new – or if we’ve helped one writer or performer reach the next stage in their career – we’ve done our job.

Today, I’m excited to announce the next stage for the siteAs part of a new push to expand its comedy coverage, Vulture has acquired Splitsider from The Awl Network, and togetherwe’re going to launch a new and comprehensive comedy section that will combine both of our sites’ writers, resources, and love for all things comedy. (Two former Splitsider editors, Halle Kiefer and Jesse David Fox, have been writing at Vulture for several years.) It’s going to be fun, and we’re really excited to share it with you.

Until the new comedy section is live, Splitsider will continue to operate as usual, and Vulture is migrating over our full archive, which will remain accessible. But for now, I’d like to thank some people who made the journey to this point possible:

- Thank you to Alex Balk and Choire Sicha from The Awl for creating a fun and completely one-of-a-kind place to work that encouraged writers to play, be weird, and take risks. There will never be anything else quite like it.

- Thank you to Dusty Matthews for fixing every tech problem sent your way, and thank you to our publisher Michael Macher for working hard to keep the site running with ads and for making it possible to pay our writers. Also, thank you for teaching me about Wizardchan.

- Thank you to Frucci, who had an ambitious idea and vision for this website, took a chance on and guided countless writers, created and fostered a unique community for comedy fans, and inspired other websites to start taking comedy seriously. Thank you for being a wonderful person to work with and for always pushing your writers to be better and to be fearless. I hope you’re having a very great, very strange birthday.

- Thank you to our readers for your likes, shares, tweets, comments, tips, suggestions, corrections, and time throughout the years. Whether you’re an everyday or occasional Splitsider visitor, a comedian or an audience member, we are forever grateful for your support.

- Finally, thank you to all of our contributors, both underpaid and unpaid, who have generously given so much of your time, effort, and passion to the site since its inception. Splitsider survived for this long because it’s filled with the love and knowledge of diehard comedy fans like you. You are and have always been the backbone of the site and what makes it entertaining, informative, and unique. It’s been incredibly fun to work with you, and I look forward to working with you more in the near future.

Stay tuned!
