While Amazon is turning to the talent at BoJack Horseman for its first-ever animated series, Apple is turning to the minds behind Bob’s Burgers. According to Deadline, Apple has given a double-season, straight-to-series order to an animated musical comedy from Loren Bouchard, Bob’s Burgers executive producer Nora Smith, and Josh Gad called Central Park, which centers on “how a family of caretakers, who live and work in Central Park, end up saving the park, and basically the world.” In addition to Gad, the voice cast features Kristen Bell, Tituss Burgess, Leslie Odom Jr., Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs, and Kathryn Hahn. The show, which has received a 26-episode order, was originally in development at Fox, and according to Deadline’s report ultimately landed at Apple after “a very competitive situation” between Apple, Netflix, and Hulu. Central Park joins a growing list of comedy-related projects in the works at Apple including a Reese Witherspoon-produced series starring Kristen Wiig and an anthology series from Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, and Lee Eisenberg.
