John Oliver Talks ‘The Lion King,’ ‘Last Week Tonight,’ and “Human Nightmare” Mariah Carey on ‘The Tonight Show’

Here’s a clip from last night’s Tonight Show, where John Oliver chats with Jimmy Fallon about playing Zazu in the upcoming Lion King remake, his experience hugging Oprah at the Emmys, and what’s happening over at his HBO show Last Week Tonight – but due to legal reasons, he can’t really get into details quite yet. “Some of our stories can get a little legally spicy … There’s a couple of big legal things that I can’t really talk about right now,” he says. “I don’t think we did anything wrong, but there is someone in particular who really disagrees with me on that one.”

When the conversation turns to Barbra Streisand and Mariah Carey, though, Oliver doesn’t allow Fallon to bullshit his way through the conversation. When Fallon says he’s met Streisand, Oliver asks, “What’s she like? Is she as high maintenance as she appears at first, second, and 35th glance? … Look me in the eyes, Jimmy. Look me in the eyes. Was Barbra Streisand easy to be around here? … I rest my case.” But Oliver would have it no other way: “But I hope she was high maintenance, because there’s certain people, their legacy is so huge, you don’t want them to let you down,” he says. “Like who?” Fallon asks. “Mariah Carey. If Mariah Carey was anything less than a human nightmare, I would be really, really disappointed.”
