The 2019 WGA Awards Want to Remind You Eighth Grade and Can You Ever Forgive Me? Were Excellent Too

If the movies themselves were anything like their protagonists, both Eighth Grade and Can You Ever Forgive Me? would be shocked to find out everyone secretly loves and respects them. But that’s the lesson we’re taking away from the 2019 Writers’ Guild Awards, which decided to shake up this year’s award season and give Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay to Eighth Grade and Can You Ever Forgive Me?, respectively.

Over in the television categories, the love keeps rolling in for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Americans, with Barry taking home the evening’s episodic comedy award and Best New Series.
