Halsey’s SNL Performance Was the Ultimate G-Eazy Callout

Last night Halsey pulled off a rare feat, serving as both SNL’s host and musical guest. If that’s not enough for you, because maybe you’re some kind of impossible to please monster, she also gave a noteworthy performance of her song “Without Me,:”which she’s previously stated is about her on-again-off-again relationship with rapper G-Eazy. And boy, was it. While the performance begins in front of a plain black backdrop, eventually the set revealed a handwritten message, assumedly from her ex, which read “I’m so sorry Ashely (Halsey’s real name) I cheated.” Then, to drive the point home, the message was surrounded by a list of places the aforementioned cheating took place, including New Orleans, LA, Austin, and … Minneapolis. (The most debauched of the twin cities, apparently.)

And just in case you were wondering if the performance was a decision born of sheer rage and not a very intentional pouring of tea, Halsey doubled-down on Twitter, writing “[A]s an artist, I have a privilege to remain honest and write about what’s true to me. [A]s a woman, I have a responsibility to not allow myself to be silenced by someone who has done me wrong. my truth will always come through in my art. [D]eath over silence, yo.”
