The rise, rise, and further rise of Mindy Kaling can add a new level in her ascent to television domination. This afternoon, Netflix announced that it has ordered a coming-of-age comedy series from Kaling, which follows “the complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl.” The show, which doesn’t yet have a title, was inspired by Kaling’s own childhood growing up in suburban Massachusetts, which she wrote about in great detail in both of her memoirs. Kaling currently has a full pot of projects cookin’ following the cancellation of her NBC series Champions last summer: She’s adapting the beloved rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral for Hulu, and she’s also gearing up for the release of Late Night, a workplace rom-com she wrote and stars in. We just have to get her on Drag Race, and we’ll hit the trifecta.
