Nicki Minaj’s Dublin Show Is Thwarted By the Sea

Nicki Minaj has overcome a lot in the last year: thrown shoes, vast conspiracies, Tracy Chapman. But on Saturday, Minaj’s entire show in Dublin was actually canceled because of the wind. When Minaj’s staging equipment was unable to traverse the gale-force winds whipping across the Irish Sea in time for a 5 p.m. arrival at the 3Arena in Dublin, MCD Productions pulled the plug. The concert will not be rescheduled. And while no one expects Minaj to conquer the sea, frustration among fans has been building.

The show in Dublin is actually the third show on the tour to be canceled at the last minute, though this is the first cancellation for weather. On March 9, a performance in Bordeaux, France, had to be canceled for technical issues, as did a February performance in Slovakia. Minaj offered up an explanation in a now-deleted Instagram post, “These two cities that had technical issues are cities that I’d never been to before and we tried to add them but they just didn’t have the power in the building to facilitate my show and they didn’t tell us until three hours before the show as opposed to once we did sound check they said it was fine.”
