No, Colton Underwood didn’t wind up quitting The Bachelor last night, even if his fence-jumping misadventures made it seem like his trek into the Portuguese wilderness would be an indefinite one after being brutally dumped by Cassie Randolph. But after realizing that he couldn’t get far without his passport, Underwood — with the guidance of his pal, Chris Harrison — made the decision to break up with his remaining two contestants, Hannah Godwin and Tayshia Adams, to prematurely conclude his search for love, knowing that it wasn’t worth remaining on the show if Cassie didn’t reciprocate his feelings. What ensued wasn’t exactly a long spectacle of human misery, but definitely a depressing hurricane of emotions, especially when you remember both women declared their love for Underwood at that point in their journeys.

So, when the now-alone Underwood knocked on their resort doors to explain this unprecedented turn of events — which, keep in mind, occurred after Tayshia’s fantasy-suite date but prior to Hannah G.’s — both pissed off women, unsurprisingly, reacted to being broken up with in different ways. To recap, here’s exactly how each relationship ended.

Tayshia

Underwood recycled the majority of his breakup speech for both women, which can generally be summed up as him tearfully pleading “in my heart I know I can’t love two people” and “I’m sorry you don’t deserve that, you don’t.” Tayshia remained composed while Underwood told her this, but requested the rest of their conversation take place without cameras around — although their microphones still picked up sound when they retreated to her casita. “Don’t cry, please. I’m sorry. I don’t even know what to say, honestly. No, it’s fine, no. I don’t want to go through this. I don’t want to. I don’t know. So this is like, it?” Tayshia told him while he bawled. “You’re a good guy, and that’s what I want.” Overall, it was on the shorter side.

Hannah G.

Unlike Tayshia, Hannah B. pushed back and sought specific answers from Underwood about the dissolution of their relationship — including when he realized they weren’t going to last, which he didn’t have an answer to. “I’m really thrown off right now. I was so excited to see you. I really thought it was for sure going to be us. I don’t know how to take this right now. I literally just wrote down that I’m in love with you. I don’t feel this is happening at all,” she explained through tears. “That’s what I do, I make everybody better and they don’t wanna stick around. I’m so angry right now. I want to get out of here because I’m so embarrassed. I didn’t think it was possible to have a better connection than what we had, so I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about.” She also said she was prepared to move anywhere to be with Underwood, and now knows the first-impression rose is meaningless. “I should’ve known it was too good,” she concluded.
