Listen to Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters’s Massive Fight Behind the Scenes on The View

The primary thing revealed in Ramin Setoodeh’s book Ladies Who Punch is that things were somehow even more dramatic behind the scenes on The View than they were on the show itself. For instance, Variety has audio of a 2006 clip described in Setoodeh’s book, in which Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters got into a fight over the morning-after pill during the show, which continued during a commercial break as Hasselbeck tore up her note cards, screamed “fuck that!” and screamed, “Good-bye! I’m off. Write about that in the New York FUCKING Post!” What might be even more remarkable is that the show’s producer Bill Geddie managed to convince Hasselbeck to come back to the show and stage a deeply uncomfortable “we’re all friends” moment with Walters as soon as the cameras started rolling again. The soap-operatic drama with Walters continued as Hasselbeck stayed on The View until she was fired in 2013.
