Tiffany Haddish on Her Infamous New Year’s Stand-up Set: ‘She Was Not Ready’

Most of us have probably had the unfortunate experience of partying a little too hard only to face the somber and embarrassing reality of a nightmare hangover the next day, but what if that next day involved performing a stand-up set in front of thousands of fans? That is exactly what happened to Tiffany Haddish before she faced some online backlash last year for a particularly rough New Year’s Eve stand-up set in Miami. During her interview with Jimmy Kimmel last night, Haddish reflected on how she caved to the influence of that “one friend that can make you do things that you don’t necessarily wanna do” and decided to party all night with a group of her buddies, resulting in a stand-up set the next day in which, as Haddish puts it, “my soul just left my body. And I was like, ‘Come back!’ She was like, ‘Nah!’ ‘Cause I don’t know if you know this about Miami, but that’s where the devil is, and he was trying to snatch my soul out of my body that day. He got it for a hot hour.”

Haddish goes on to tell Kimmel that she already has plans to return to Miami for another performance, where ticket holders for her New Year’s show will get in free. The proceeds will also all go to a great cause. “So while the devil tried to trick me,” she tells Kimmel, “I turn it around and make us win!”
