Roman Polanski’s wife, the actress and model Emmanuelle Seigner, is decidedly not happy with her husband being a character in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The Hollywood Reporter has translated her Instagram post, written in French, that criticizes the use of Polanski’s marriage to Sharon Tate — and the brutal tragedy that ended it — without consulting him. “How can you take advantage of someone’s tragic life while trampling on them?” she begins. “Something to think about (I’m talking about the system that tramples Roman). A little explanation because I understand that people don’t understand my point of view.” She then goes on to say her criticism only extends to the use of Polanski’s life. “I am not criticizing the film,” she wrote. “I am just saying that it doesn’t bother them to make a film about Roman and his tragic story, and make money with it… while at the same time they have made him a pariah. And all without consulting him of course.” In 2018, Roman Polanski was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his decades-old rape conviction, he has since sued for re-admittance. Seigner concludes her post with, “Let’s judge the film as a good one, but the idea is this is bothersome.”
