Selena Gomez and Bill Murray were the hottest non-couple on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The pair stirred up trouble after photographers snapped Murray whispering intently in Gomez’s ear. Multiple times. (And, no, it wasn’t a kiss. Let’s just get that out of the way now.) Vulture’s finest, Rachel Handler and Nate Jones, speculated about what Murray was saying that he couldn’t share with the rest of the class. All hope seemed lost when Murray himself couldn’t recall what he said, just that he was “trying to keep her at ease.” Thankfully, investigative journalist Jimmy Fallon got the answer out of Gomez on The Tonight Show.
“He’d just lean in and be like, ‘You look great tonight,’ ” she recalled. “And then he’d look back serious and be like, ‘Where are you from?’ ”
The two became buddy-buddy while doing press for Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy (zom-com!) The Dead Don’t Die. “He’s just fun,” she added. “He’s like a big kid.”
