It’s icons only when it comes to the Black-ish spinoff theme songs. First, we were blessed with Grown-ish’s “Grown” by Chloe x (Her Royal Highness) Halle. Now, Mariah Carey has written and performed the Mixed-ish theme song, “In the Mix.” To everyone who said Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” was also for light-skinned girls, come get y’all juice. From the legend herself: “As a biracial woman in the entertainment industry, there was no way I did not want to be a part of Mixed-ish, especially after seeing the pilot, which I loved. I could not be more honored and proud to be writing and performing ‘In the Mix’ for Kenya and the show.” Mixed-ish follows Rainbow (played by Tracee Ellis Ross in Black-ish) as she navigates growing up in a mixed-race family in the ’80s. Arica Himmel will play a young Bow Johnson with Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tika Sumpter as her parents. “In the Mix” will premiere with the TV show on September 24. Move over, Nicholas Britell’s Succession theme song, you’ve got competition.
