Vulture’s Golden Globe Predictions

Clockwise from top left: Courtesy of Universal, Warner Brothers, NBC, and HBO

The Golden Globes, whose nominations are announced tomorrow morning at eight, are one of the weirdest awards shows around, and not just because the stars are often drunk or in the bathroom when their names are called. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, made up of both journalists and quasi-journalists from faraway lands, was a laughingstock for years but has recently showed shockingly good taste in television (awards for the British Office, Nip/Tuck, and The Shield). Even their movie selections have been arguably better than the movies that won the Oscar in recent years.

On the other hand, the HFPA often throws in at least one total WTF selection, like when Bobby got nominated for Best Picture last year. (This actually happened!) This year, we have a morbid fear that The Bucket List might walk away with a bunch of nominations, but we’re crossing our fingers and hoping that we’re wrong.
