Conan O’Brien on ‘Indiana Jones 4’: ‘I Liked the Ants’

As huge fans of loud, obnoxious public jeering, we take no pleasure in reporting that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull avoided the so-called “Cannes Curse” and was not booed after its premiere at the film festival over weekend, but instead debuted to a three-and-a-half-minute standing ovation and mostly decent reviews.

But what did the host of Late Night With Conan O’Brien think? Last night, we attended a screening of Crystal Skull and Conan was there too! As we were leaving, we passed him on 42nd Street, and someone in his party — he was with Kevin Nealon plus some unfamous people — brought up a scene in which one of the film’s villains is (spoiler alert!) eaten by killer ants. “I liked the ants!” raved Conan. We’re not totally sure what he thought of the rest of the movie (it was getting late and we had to run home to write this blog post) — judging from his expression, it sounded like he enjoyed the ants in spite of everything else (though it’s also possible that he was arguing with a friend who just didn’t like the ants). But he’s absolutely right; no matter how you feel about the rest of the movie (this Vulture editor sort of hated it), the scene with the ants is totally awesome.
