Frank Darabont’s LaBeouf-less ‘Indiana Jones 4’ Screenplay Leaks Online
The script for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn’t born terrible — during its two-decade development, it went through multiple revisions and writers before George Lucas finally deemed it bad enough to shoot. And now, Frank Darabont’s 2003 draft (called Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods) has hit the Internet! According to reports, Steven Spielberg loved it and Lucas hated it, which probably means it’s fantastic. We haven’t read it yet, but we skimmed it; Crystal Skull’s killer ants are in there, and Indy, Marion, and Professor Oxley still implausibly survive a boat trip over four waterfalls (also — SPOILER ALERT! — knowledge is still their treasure). What’s different? Among other things, Shia LaBeouf’s character is nowhere to be found, which means nobody swings Tarzan-style through the jungle surrounded by CGI monkeys (CGI monkeys do make an appearance, but, on the page at least, they seem relatively non-annoying). Oh, what might’ve been!
