Elementary: Columbia’s untitled Sherlock Holmes project — no, not the super-serious Guy Ritchie one at WB — just unleashed a fearsome barrage of comedy, as Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell are set as Sherlock Holmes and Watson, respectively. Tropic Thunder’s Etan Cohen is writing the script, but who could possibly be producing this comedy? Through a simple chain of deductive reasoning, we knew it had to be you, Judd Apatow. [Variety]

Jeezy on Ice: Young Jeezy has beat out David Archuleta and Taylor Hicks in our imaginary casting sessions to land the hip-hop megastar role in Ice Cube’s Janky Promoters, the story of two promoters who get in over their heads. [HR]

Hartnett Sings in the Rain: Josh Hartnett will star in the West End stage version of Rain Man, playing the Tom Cruise character. British actor Adam Godley, who’s playing the autistic brother, is currently muttering, “Definitely not, not what I expected, definitely not a good idea, definitely not a good actor. Only fifteen minutes to Wapner.” [Playbill]

Shakira to Address the Nation?: Shakira is in talks with Live Nation for a comprehensive deal that includes touring, merchandising, and recording — valued around $70 million. Holloway Is so Cool: Josh Holloway (Sawyer on Lost) has joined the Polish brothersStay Cool as the former-high-school-jock ex-boyfriend of Winona Ryder’s character. We’ll watch his performance carefully, as we’re suddenly very suspicious this entire movie might simply be a plant by J.J. Abrams, packed with clues to the finale of Lost. [HR]

Lin Hides from WB: Warner Bros. has bought Hiding in Time, Christopher Long’s comic about a government agency that uses time travel to protect witnesses, for Dan Lin to produce. And since Lin’s other projects include Justice League and The Box, he won’t be “producing” this movie so much as “making sure it never sees the inside of a movie theater.” [Variety]
