Kings of Leon, Only by the Night
Official Release Date: September 23
The Verdict: By now, you surely know what to expect from these guys: fuzzy, southern-tinged garage-rock songs about backstage coitus, excitedly crooned by a man with an imminent case of laryngitis. So, it’s unlikely anyone will be disappointed by Only by the Night, the band’s pretty great new fourth album (it hit the Internet yesterday), which offers lots more of that. The songs are slow and reverb-heavy, more in line with the ones on last year’s Because of the Times than those on their slightly more energetic first two records. Nothing here quite matches the stupid power of first single “Sex on Fire,” but that was probably to be expected.
