Artists Sol Sender, Andy Keene, and Amanda Gentry Work Toward an ‘O’

Development of Barack Obama campaign identity, by Sol Sender, Andy Keene, and Amanda Gentry (2007)

The Obama campaign’s rallying cry has already joined “I Like Ike” and “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too” in the political sloganeering hall of fame, but the “O” logo he ran with has always had its detractors — including our new president himself — for being overly slick and corporate. Now, to celebrate the inauguration, Daniziger Projects is presenting a show of campaign imagery that includes this worksheet of alternative logos designed by Sol Sender, Andy Keene, and Amanda Gentry, as well as the source photograph for Shepard Fairey’s poster and other hope-y ephemera. Can we wish that the sketches didn’t all look like outtakes from the Olympics? Yes we can.
