Despite the fact that movie-theater ticket sales have risen over 14 percent from the same time period last year, exhibitors are “really worried” about the fact that no one going to the theater seems to be buying ridiculously overpriced tubs of soda and popcorn. “It’s hard to tell whether it’s people’s spending habits or the product, which has been heavily weighted toward more adult fare like Gran Torino and Slumdog Millionaire, which aren’t big concession movies,” said Dean Kerasotes, COO of Kerasotes Theaters.
