Was a Man Asked to Direct Twilight 3?

A few months ago, vampire fans were scandalized by the announcement that the second Twilight movie, New Moon, would not be helmed by Catherine Hardwicke — who did the first one and is a woman — but instead by Chris Weitz, who is just some wang-having dude, and thus, in the eyes of fans, not qualified to translate one of Stephenie Meyer’s delicate fantasy-romance novels to the screen. And now, following recent rumors that Drew Barrymore was under consideration to direct Twilight 3, comes word that her name might’ve only come up after a man dropped out and Summit Entertainment panicked.

It probably wasn’t Chris Weitz — we’ve known for a while that he’ll be busy editing New Moon when Eclipse begins shooting, but that’s pretty much all we know. MTV recently spoke with 23-year-old actor Kellan Lutz, who plays vampire Emmett Cullen in Twilight:

“I actually heard rumors that they did have a third director, and he fell out, and then they saw more people,” Lutz said of the director for Eclipse. “I would say [the name] if I could remember it. But I know it was a guy.”

See? Conclusive proof that men are not detail-oriented — Lutz couldn’t even remember the name of his potential director! Or the fact that he probably shouldn’t be telling a reporter about behind-the-scenes studio blundering. Bring back Catherine Hardwicke, we say!
