There’s not much to say about the closing of the specialty-film subdivision of Fox known as Fox Atomic — the studio, best known for releasing 28 Days Later and The Hills Have Eyes II, was never able to match the success of Fox’s other in-house “prestige” imprint, Fox Searchlight — but it did result in another blowup between the embattled Variety and Vulture buddy Nikki Finke. After Variety broke the story on Sunday with what Finke considered to be insufficient sourcing, Finke then ran an “exclusive” a few hours later that, hilariously, also featured no direct sourcing.
