In a story in yesterday’s Times, Alan Feuer and Allen Salkin give the most detailed account yet of deceased artist Dash Snow’s final days. Among the morbid revelations: Shortly before he died of a heroin overdose at East Village hotel Lafayette House, he called girlfriend, Jade Berreau, who was at a restaurant with friends and the couple’s 2-year-old daughter discussing a possible intervention. He told her, “Good-bye. I love you. I’ll see you in another world.” Also, an anonymous friend of Snow’s recounts a trip to the Hamptons the weekend before his death: “He wanted to be left alone and didn’t come down for a dinner party. He stayed asleep the entire time. Then he went back into the city, got his drugs and knew exactly what he was doing when he went to that hotel.” So was it a suicide? Who knows! It certainly wouldn’t make this whole thing any less awful.
