MacGruber Will Save Us All

Vicky … : Incredibly enough, a MacGruber film has been announced, with Will Forte and Kristen Wiig reprising their roles from the SNL skits. There’s already a script, too! In it, MacGruber is brought out of retirement as a monk in Ecuador by an army colonel who needs his help to bring down the evil Cunth (Val Kilmer), who long ago was responsible for the death of MacGruber’s wife. Ryan Philippe is onboard as well, as Piper, an Army officer assisting MacGruber. Jorma Taccone (the non–Andy Samberg guy from the “Jizz in My Pants” video), who created the character, will direct. It’s All in the … : Tobey Maguire will star in The Details, an indie comedy directed by Jacob Estes. Alongside Elizabeth Banks, Maguire plays one half of a troubled couple dealing with raccoons in their backyard. In the process, all kinds of weird, outlandish things happen, some of them involving fellow cast members Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, Anna Friel, and Laura Linney. You know what would also work with that title? A movie-length slideshow of Details magazine–type cover photos featuring Maguire set to some soothing tunes. Yeah, we’d pay for that. [Variety]

Happy Valentine’s: Two Grey’s Anatomy vets are joining the ensemble comedy Valentine’s Day, which features five interconnecting stories in L.A. — Eric Dane, who will play a QB struggling over whether to retire, and Patrick Dempsey, who will play an obstetrician dating Jennifer Garner’s character, who doesn’t know he’s married. Sounds blandtastic! [Variety, HR]

You Ever Drank Bailey’s From a Shoe?: Mario Van Peebles will direct the indie drama Bailey featuring Michael Clarke Duncan and Morgan Simpson, who wrote the screenplay and will play the title character. Sorry to disappoint all those waiting for a fictional biopic of Scott Wolf’s character on Party of Five, but this Bailey is a story of “spiritual redemption against the backdrop of Memphis blues.” [Variety]

Love-It: Lyle Lovett’s untitled next album, due out October 20, will be a collection of originals and covers of songs by Lovett’s favorite Texas musicians, including Eric Taylor, Vince Bell, Tommy Elskes, and Townes Van Zandt. Says Lovett, “I just didn’t have enough new songs I liked to do an entire album of my songs, to be honest.” And we appreciate that kind of quality control, Lyle. [Billboard]

More Trinian’s: Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding have joined the cast of Brit comedy St. Trinian’s II: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold. Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Gemma Arterton, Talulah Riley, and Jodie Whittaker, all of whom were in the hit first movie, are in this one as well. We’re assuming that if we were even a little bit British, we’d be absolutely flipping our shit right now. [Variety]
