Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh Do Their Part to Promote Blueprint 3

Jay-Z took a few shots at some old targets on his Vulture-disappointing new single, “Off That,” and now those targets are predictably firing back. Bill O’Reilly, who was instructed to “fall back,” didn’t get too worked up; he simply played a clip of the track before moaning weirdly and calling Jay “a regular Otis Redding.” (How long do you think it took the Fox News producers to come up with an appropriate black artist for O’Reilly to name-check?) Limbaugh, who was told to get off Jay’s balls, was way more colorful in getting right to the central issue: why, government-enforced circumcision, of course. “I would remind the rapper Jay-Z, ‘Mr. Z, it is President Obama who wants to mandate circumcision. That means if we need to save our penises from anybody, it’s Obama.’ ” (Also notable is the fact that we think he’s being only half facetious when he proudly brags that “I’m now in a rap tune by the famous rapper Jay-Z.”)

But more important, how is it that we are less than a month away from the release of Blueprint 3 and the most interesting development so far is Hov bickering with some angry old white guys? We know almost every rapper fights with Bill O’Reilly at some point in his or her career, but does that mean Jay had to do it too? For the record, with the big 4-0 approaching, we think he would be better off to avoid associating with any old people whatsoever (his mom can still ride, we guess), let alone goading them into crotchety tiffs. Maybe he can check to see if the Game’s still interested in beefing?
