Judge Clears Way for Wide Release of Chris Rock’s New Documentary

Chris Rock’s new documentary, Good Hair, has grossed $1.7 million at the domestic box office in limited release since its opening back on October 9. However, U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer has paved the way for the film to open in more theaters this weekend with her ruling against the request for an injunction filed by documentary filmmaker Regina Kimbell, who had claimed that Good Hair was a ripoff of her 2006 film My Nappy Roots. That said, Rock isn’t totally off the hook yet: The case, in which Kimbell is asking for $5 million in damages, will still go to trial. [Reuters]
