Inglourious Basterds, Single Man, and The Road Ineligible for WGA Awards

Earlier this week, some wondered if the ability of the Weinstein Company’s 2009 movies to win Writers Guild Awards might be impaired by Harvey’s decision not to send screeners to guild members. Turns out they can’t anyway. Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds), Tom Ford (A Single Man), and Joe Penhall (The Road) are not WGA members, which doesn’t necessarily disqualify them; but to be eligible, movies must be made “under the guild’s Minimum Basic Agreement, or under a collective-bargaining agreement of one of several international guilds,” and none of those films were. Oh, and Nine’s writer is in the WGA, but Harvey likely just figured that movie didn’t stand a chance. [Wrap via Playlist]
